Getting About

Getting around Newport on the Isle of Wight with Southern VectisBeing one of the Isle of Wight’s busiest towns, Newport has excellent transport links with regular bus services across the whole Island. The services extend to the popular beach resorts of Ventnor, Shanklin, and Sandown as well as out to The Needles and Freshwater Bay in the West Wight. Late night bus services run on Friday and Saturday nights to larger towns such as Ryde and Sandown.

For a full bus timetable, see the Southern Vectis website.

If you’re looking to hire a bike, Newport has safe and well maintained cycle paths that extend to Cowes in the north and right through to Sandown in the south.

The Isle of Wight is also famous for having more miles of footpaths and bridleways that it has roads so you will never be far from a countrywide or coastal walk.

Finally, being built around the River Medina, means Newport Harbour is great for those visiting by sea. Following the River Medina out towards the Solent, you will pass Cowes and East Cowes, the country’s most popular and busiest home of yachting.
